About Pixquil

Pixquil started from a familiar annoyance: needing a passport or visa photo on short notice, and either paying a studio a surprising amount for a two-minute job, or getting an application bounced back because a home-printed photo was a couple of millimetres off spec.

The tool on this site does the one job a photo studio does for document photos — cropping and sizing an image to an exact official format — without the trip, the wait, or the fee. Pick your country, align your photo to the guide frame, and download a print-ready file.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser using the HTML canvas element. When you upload a photo, it's read directly by your browser and never leaves your device — there's no server-side processing and no copy is stored anywhere. Closing the tab clears everything.

What it doesn't do

The tool handles size, proportion, and head positioning accurately, matched to published guidance for each country. It can't judge lighting quality, background shadow, glasses glare, or your expression — those depend on the source photo you take, which is why each country guide walks through how to get a clean source shot before you crop it.

Accuracy and updates

Photo requirements are set by individual governments and occasionally change. The specifications used in this tool and in the country guides are reviewed periodically, but for anything application-critical, cross-check against the relevant government's current published guidance before you submit.
